Terminator 3

Dienstag, 16.20 Uhr. Showtime!

OutNow.CH: The Film is great. Congratulations. How many times have you actually seen it?

Kristanna Loken: Thank you. Ehm, quite a few now. In its entireness, I'm not quite sure. Probably half a dozen times.

ON: Let's talk about Arnold Schwarzenegger. What kind of person is he? A "larger than life" Superstar or just the nice guy from around the corner?

KL: He's a nice guy from Austria... No, Arnold was great to work with him. He's got just that larger than life persona. I definitely learned a lot by working with him and watching him during the fight sequences. And also now, in the publicity aspect of things. To see how he is with the public, the press. He's very generous with his time. I've learned a lot.

ON: Are you still in contact with him or did you go separate ways, when the movie was done?

KL: Oh no, we just had the premier last night in London and he was there with his lovely wife. We've done quite a few of those. We were in Berlin together, Madrid, London or L.A.. So I've seen him quite a bit.

ON: Yes, this is business. But in private?

KL: Well, I'm kinda supporting his political career and I hope to see him more in the future. And I really like his wife. I know her quite a bit. She's so lovely. The two older girls of theirs are great as well and he's done a great job with his family.

ON: Have you been a fan of the Terminator-movies ever since?

KL: I was always a fan of Robert Patrick in T2. I loved his performance. But of course, I much more invested now, but yeah. I've been a fan.

ON: The Terminator is one of the most famous movies ever. Was it always a dream to be part of a big thing like that?

KL: I never thought I might be in one of them. It was a great honor to be part of this franchise. And to effect people in such a large level is a thing I like.

ON: Do you like action movies? Or are we gonna see you in different kind of genres in the future?

KL: Definitely, I hope to have a divers career. But I don't know what I'm doing next, so I've been really kind of patient and caucious, defining the next role. There's a couple of things I like, but we'll see....

ON: How long have you been doing this promotion so far?

KL: Well, we've been in Europe now for about ten days. And we've got three more countries after Switzerland. But after that, I'll take a few days for myself and visit some friends.

ON: Is it the first time that you are in Switzerland?

KL: No, I was here a few years ago with a friend, who lives outside of Zurich. I spent some time in the little village, visited the Streetparade, had a lot of fun, danced all night. It was so great.

ON: We've read you like to ski. Is there a chance to see you in the Swiss mountains?

KL: Well, I haven't been skiing here yet, but I would love to. I actually never skiied in Europe.

ON: Back to the movie. In some scenes you really had a hard time as T-X. What was your work-out like, to prepare for these scenes?

KL: Oh yes. I had to do a lot of training. I had a nutritionalist, I wanted to get bigger, put on muscle-mass, which I did. About 15 pounds. I did weapons-training, weight-training, Martial-Arts and I had a mime-coach to kind of get that surreal human/non-human quality for the character. But, it was fun. Arriving in the morning, not knowing what kind of body-positioning they had in mind for the day. It was challenging as well, to let everything look so flawlessly, but I was ready for it.

ON: How do you play a robot?

KL: It's about finding a "wall" between human and robot. And eliminating all signs that are human and that we take for granted, such as blinking or showing other signs. All those little things, we take for granted.

ON: Is it true, that you're collecting bones?

KL: Yes, it is. It's amazing, how people find out about such things... But I am very interested in bones or Voodoo. I do have a big collections of bones at my house. I collect them from all over the world. I'm having a lot of animal-bones at home. Like a zebra-skull from africa. Bones from an oryx and a lot that I really don't know from what kind of animal they are. But I especially like teeth. A skull with teeth... It's wonderful...

ON: There are a lot of rumors on the internet about you. Which one would you like to clarify the most?

KL: The number one rumor I would like to clarify is, that I didn't start as a model and then all of a sudden went to acting. I mean I started acting when I was 13 years old. I did a daytime television-show for about a year and the studied. My mom has been a model. I really did it for about a year to get some money for my studies. But it was never really my thing. I'll leave that one for my mom... But now I've been in L.A. for almost seven years and fortune enough to work on a regular basis in Television and some smaller films. That would be the rumor I'd like to change.

ON: How did you get the part in T3?

Kurz vor der Terminierung

Kurz vor der Terminierung

KL: Well, through auditions and my agents like any other. They came to me and thought this would be a great role for me. With my physicality, my athletism and bodytype I just didn't let anything to come in my way and got the job. I actually hired a trainer even before those auditions to just kind of get me familiar with punches, kicks and things like that. The first audition, I head to read for the director and the others were just physical auditions. These were probably the strangest auditions in my life. It was a lot of running to the other side of the hall, stopping, turning, jumping, looking, kicking and so on. And through this process, the director said practically nothing, so I had no idea if I was falling the way he wanted me to or kicking the right way. When they finally called me up to tell me, that I'm in the movie, I was out for a ride on my horse. And my friend was so excited, she started sreaming when I got back. So I knew, I had the part.

ON: You did TV-Shows like Mortal Kombat or Star Trek: Voyager. What's the main difference between tv and movie-making?

KL: Of course, the size. The budget and this kind of world wide franchise that's been so well known. It's simply larger.

ON: How does it feel to see yourself as an actionfigure in the stores?

KL: It's pretty wild. To see that kind of miniature-me. It's definitely fun to see.

ON: Is there a chance, we might see you in an eventual Terminator 4?

KL: I've been hearing that question quite a bit. It's a good thing. I think the fans have always dictated the sequels. I would be honored dough, to reprise my role. But right now, we're just concentrating on promoting part 3.

ON: You grew up on a fruit farm. Do you miss this time?

KL: Absolutely. It's great to have the farm to go back to and to kind of come from this grounding place. I'm very connected with earth, the weather and the climate. It's always great for me to go back and kind of decompress and relax.

ON: What do you do to relax?

KL: Several different things. I meditate, I go out for a ride with my horse, I hike, read books, lay on the beach. Things like that.

ON: Do you still have time for this?

KL: Not lately... Hopefully soon, I will.

ON: Do you have fans knocking at your door already? What do you do about it?

KL: I have had a couple, actually. It's a bizarr feeling. It's definitely an invasion of privacy. And normally I'm just sending my boyfriend out to handle this...

ON: I have a couple of words here. And I would like you to just say the first thing that pops into your head...
