"There will be Blood" - Roundtable
Ein neuerlicher "Virtual Roundtable" brachte Infos zu "There will be Blood" ans Tageslicht

In your carreer you prefer mostly horror movies and dramas. Can you imagine yourself producing big budget action movies or comedies or these genres are not your style?
Never say never, but I it is true I am not particularly attracted to big budget action or comedies. Material with a darker edge usually is what attracts me mostly. Although I do like lots of quirky comedies but they are usually on the darker side.
Is it true that this movie would never have been made if it wasn't for Daniel Day-Lewis agreeing to play the part? Was he really your only option as the lead?
Yes, Paul Thomas Anderson wrote the script with Daniel in mind. And it was never an option for him for anyone else to play the role so we were lucky that he responded so favorably to the material when we sent it to him.
Did you, as a producer, have an influence over some of the casting decisions?
Yes, it was a collaborative process between Paul, myself and our casting director, with Paul having the final decision.
The opening is incredibly powerful and foreboding. Did you have any reservations about having 15 minutes without a word spoken at the beginning of the film?
Yes, I thought it was totally unique and ballsy, but thats what we expect out of Paul Thomas Anderson.
In the cinematographic framework, the HD filming are expanding. In your opinion, shall we say "goodbye" to the film definitely? You hope so, because this aspect leads on to a reduction in cost?
No, I don't hope so at all. I love the medium of the film and I'll be very sad to see it extinct.
How did you first met with Paul Thomas Anderson? Did you know him before the Boogie Nights production?
I met him through my husband Daniel Lupi who was line producing Paul's first movie. And has subsequently line produced all of Paul's subsequent movies. He introduced us and Paul was looking for another producer on Boogie Nights. We've been partners ever since.
Is the oil used in scenes real oil? How did you get it? If it's not real, what is it made of?
No it is not real oil. It is actually food coloring added to methylcellulose which is an additive in McDonald's milshakes. Which is ironical considering all the milkshake references!
In your opinion, what is the most interesting extra among ordinary ones in DVD? Audio comment, cut scenes...
I think it is interesting to see the deleted scenes.
How long did it take to make 'There Will be Blood' from script to screen?
Approximately five years. It took a while for Paul to decide on the material and then a lot of research went into the piece. We then approached Daniel Day-Lewis for the role of Daniel Plainview when Paul was about three quarters of the way through the script. We originally had an offer for financing at one studio and lost that and then eventually ended up at Paramount Vantage who financed the movie with Miramax. After shooting the movie in Marfa, Texas and California we were in post production for nearly a year. It was a long long journey but well worth every moment.
Is it a relief to finally see the finished product on DVD and Blu-ray? Maybe a sense of finality to have it sitting on your library shelf?
Yes it was a very long journey for Paul and myself and it is really satisfying to see the movie finally coming out on DVD. It is finally time to move on to the next one.
Momentan sind keine neuen Projekte von JoAnne Sellar bekannt. Ihr Gatte hingegen ist bei der neuen Abenteuerkomödie von Will Ferrell namens Land of the Lost bereits wieder involviert. Vielleicht mischelt da seine Frau auch bald auf dem Produzentenstuhl mit?
